The short answer
Quick answer: Fteri Beach on Kefalonia is the highest-ranked Mediterranean beach for 2026. It placed #2 worldwide on World's 50 Best Beaches 2026. Cala Macarella (Menorca), Cala dei Gabbiani (Sardinia) and Türkiye's Kaputaş complete our top four. Each entry below shows which list ranked it and in which year.
How we ranked
We include Mediterranean beaches only, so Atlantic favourites such as Praia da Falésia are left out. No beach paid to be listed. We sort the beaches into four tiers, and within each tier they keep the order of their source list:
- Tier 1 (#1–8): Mediterranean beaches on World's 50 Best Beaches 2026, in that list's order.
- Tier 2 (#9–25): Mediterranean beaches on World's 50 Best Beaches Europe 2025 not already in Tier 1, in that list's order.
- Tier 3 (#26–29): Mediterranean beaches in the Europe top 10 of Tripadvisor Travelers' Choice 2025 that are on neither World's 50 Best list.
- Tier 4 (#30): a long-standing editors' pick with an older award (The Guardian, 2020).
