Why these clubs

Techno is city music: born in Detroit, rebuilt in Berlin after the Wall fell, now living in basements, power plants, cold stores and even a soap factory. Here are famous techno clubs open in 2026 in 14 cities that have their own page on whoin.app, so you can plan the night and the people together.

Every fact comes from a page we opened in autumn 2026, with its year, country and source. Clubs that have closed are covered in their own section near the end. Programmes change weekly, so check the club's listing before booking a flight.

The short answer

Quick answer: With one trip, go to Berlin for Berghain and Tresor. For the best odds at the door, try fabric in London, Shelter in Amsterdam or Rex Club in Paris. Outside Europe, people fly for BASEMENT in New York and D-EDGE in São Paulo.

Closed clubs people still search for

De School, Amsterdam: Closed in January 2024. Its site reads "De School 2016-2024", and no reopening is confirmed (Netherlands; mneemo.com, 2026).

Printworks, London: Held its final event on 1 May 2023. Wikipedia, as read in November 2026, still says the Press Halls part of the building is "scheduled to reopen" as a music and events venue in 2026. We could not confirm that it has reopened, so check official channels (UK; Wikipedia, "Printworks (London)").

Concrete, Paris: The barge club at Port de la Rapée closed permanently in July 2019 after a non-stop "Grand Closing" weekend (France; DJ Mag, 2019; Le Parisien, 2019).

Watergate, Berlin: Closed at the end of 2024 (Germany; Techno Airlines, 2026).

Planning a techno trip: tickets, ID, phones and getting home

  • Tickets: Buy ahead where the club sells online. At INPUT, door prices run higher than presale, and at Tresor a ticket does not guarantee entry (Techno Airlines, 2026). Shelter caps resale on TicketSwap at 120% of the original price (Shelter FAQ, 2026).
  • ID: Bring an original photo ID. fabric accepts passports, national ID cards and driving licences (fabric FAQ, 2026), while FABRIK refuses driving licences and photocopies (Techno Airlines, 2026). Age limits range from 16+ to 21+; see the table above.
  • Phones: Expect camera stickers or a no-filming rule at most clubs here. Keep your phone for maps and getting home.
  • Coat check: Mandatory at Grelle Forelle; budget for it elsewhere too.
  • Getting home: FABRIK (Humanes de Madrid) and BASEMENT (Maspeth, Queens) are outside the centre, so plan transport before you go. If you want to keep going after closing, check local listings for late events.

Don't go alone: find your crew on whoin

The hardest part of a techno trip is often finding people to go with. On whoin.app, people list themselves by city and district with their social accounts: open the Berlin, London, Amsterdam, New York or São Paulo page, or see who's in tonight, and message people into the same nights before you land. A small group makes the queue easier and the late ride home safer, especially from out-of-town spots like FABRIK or BASEMENT. Before meeting anyone new, read our safe meetup guide. New in town? COMMON QUESTIONS · FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the most famous techno club in the world?

Berghain in Berlin is usually called the most famous techno club in the world. It opened in 2004 in a former power plant in Friedrichshain, was voted #1 in DJ Mag's Top 100 Clubs in 2009, and a German court classed it as a cultural institution in 2016. Tresor, fabric and Shelter are other well-known names.

How do I get into Berghain?

There is no published dress code and no guaranteed trick. The door decides case by case, and many people are turned away every weekend. Your best chance is to arrive calm, in a small group of two or three, dressed simply, and knowing who is playing. If you are turned away, Tresor is a short ride away.

Which city is best for a techno trip?

Berlin is the classic choice, with Berghain and Tresor, and weekend nights that often run into Monday. London (fabric, FOLD) and Amsterdam (Shelter) are easier for first-timers because entry is more predictable. Outside Europe, BASEMENT in New York and D-EDGE in São Paulo are the clubs people fly for.

Can you take photos inside techno clubs?

Usually not. Berghain, fabric and FOLD put stickers on phone cameras, Tresor and Grelle Forelle ban filming, and BASEMENT keeps phones off the dancefloor. The rule protects privacy and keeps the focus on the music. Expect your sticker to be checked on the way in, and step outside if you need to use your camera.

Are De School, Printworks and Concrete still open?

No. De School in Amsterdam closed in January 2024, Concrete in Paris closed in July 2019, and Printworks London held its last event on 1 May 2023. Its Press Halls were scheduled to reopen as an events venue in 2026, but we could not confirm that, and Watergate in Berlin closed at the end of 2024.

Is it safe to go to a techno club alone?

Many people go alone, but a small group makes the queue, the night and the ride home easier, especially at out-of-town clubs like FABRIK in Humanes or BASEMENT in Queens. Plan transport before you go, keep your ID and phone secure, and agree on a meeting point. whoin lets you find people in that city first.
